Alkylation combines isobutane with olefinic butane to produceiso-octane, a MOGAS blending component. This unit is characterized by –
High stoichiometric ratio (about 10:1) of IC4 to olefins in the reactor
Contaminants such as propane, normal butane and pentane should be low in concentration
These contaminants are separated from IC4 by distillation and purged, whereas IC4 is an ingredient and IC4 loss is to be minimized.
While the distillation columns are complex, especially the isostripper, our GDS methodology is still suitable for controlling the purge of non-ingredients.
